Eka Pada Supta Virasana (One Leg Reclined Hero)

The Purna Yoga Hip Series sequence includes six directions of movement in the hip joints. It is therapeutic for low back pain, SI joint dysfunction, and sciatica. The final posture in the Hip Series sequence is Eka Pada Supta Virasana.

Start in tabletop. Bring your knees together and feet wider than your hips. Bring your right foot forward with the sole of the foot flat to the floor and place a block under your hips to sit on. Keep your left knee in line with your left hip and inner left knee towards the floor. If your left knee is off the floor or if you have any knee pain you can try adding another block or blanket under your hips. If that doesn’t resolve your knee pain come out and switch to low lunge pose (Anjaneyasana).

If you are comfortable remove the support under your hips and bring both hips to the floor, pull your low belly in and extend your tailbone forward, eventually lying on your back. 5-10 breaths. Both sides.
